Editor,
An RV business in our area advertises, “the family that plays together, stays together.” They may have borrowed their slogan from a religious group who had the motto, “the family that prays together, stays together.” Playing together and praying together often brings a family closer together. We’ve been doing that as a family since the mid 50s. God often surprises us with answers to our prayers. Just this past week a granddaughter-in-law wrote that she was looking for something to entertain our great granddaughter, age three, on a 20-hour flight from their home in Asia to Florida, plus many hours of car travel and visiting relatives during a three-month visit to North America. She remembered that when she was a girl she had a Polly Pocket (a compact doll house set the size of a hamburger bun). Not only are they not made anymore, if a used one could be found it might cost between $20 and $100. She was processing this thought while driving to a thrift shop. She prayed, “God, if you love me, let there be a Polly Pocket at the thrift shop.” A short time later she asked a lady in the shop’s toy department to keep an eye out for a Polly Pocket, even though she had not seen one for 20 years. To her great surprise, in ten minutes the lady returned with a bag of six Polly Pockets for which she paid one dollar. She concluded, “I accepted the Polly Pockets as an answer to my prayer from a loving God who is intimately involved in my life.”
You’re no doubt wondering why I’m sharing this story about answered prayer? Thursday, May 4th, is America’s 66th Annual National Day of Prayer. Praying people love to pray together. Once again, from throughout Lake County, praying people will gather at the Courthouse over the noon hour to pray for our country.
