Editor,
Presenting false information by mail during political campaigns does not serve our democracy. Democrats have painted Greg Gianforte as against public lands, when he has publicly supported federal public lands. More seriously, the Lake County Republican Central Committee has sent out such wild misinformation on Rob Quist that it is important to set the record straight. There is no space here to include their mailing, but readers have surely received it. 1) Rob Quist is a strong supporter of our Second Amendment rights. He does not support mandatory gun registration, and such registration has not led to federal gun confiscation. 2) Mr. Quist states, “We have great immigration officials and we need to let them do their jobs.” He supports diversity, but does not support sanctuary cities; nor are sanctuary cities known to attract criminals to their states. 3) He has spoken in favor of “fixing” the Affordable Care Act, but this does not mean he supports single-payer health insurance, and such plans do not include “death panels.” 4) Rob Quist does not favor increased taxes and more welfare. Almost no one does. 5) Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are solid Democrats. They are not socialists. Bernie Sanders is a Social Democrat who caucuses with the Democrats. He is not a socialist either.
