SIDNEY — The Polson Lady Pirates softball team opened the State Class A Softball Tournament on Thursday with a 9-1 win over Lewistown.
Laurel Bitterman went 4-for-5 with an RBI, Ashley Benson went 4-for-4 with two RBIs and Quinn Motichka had a two-run double.
In the second game of the day, Hamilton slipped by Polson 2-1, handing Polson their first loss in the three-day, double-elimination tournament.
Kadyn Smith went 3-for-4 with a double.
On Friday, Paige Noyes went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBIs as Polson clobbered Sidney 15-1 in their first game in the loser-out bracket.
The Lady Pirates followed up the Sidney win by eliminating Havre 13-3 and Columbia Falls 2-0 from the tournament.
Kaylanna Desjarlais led the Lady Pirates at the plate in the Havre game, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs.
Saturday morning, Polson’s Northwestern A rival Frenchtown ended their championship bid by beating the Lady Pirates 12-2. The Lady Pirates wrapped up the state tournament fourth place with a record of 4-2 and ended the season with a record of 17-9.
