Fay D. Smith
POLSON — Fay D. Smith was born in Roundup, Montana, on Sept. 3, 1932. She was raised on a farm by her parents, Mary Pearl Goodnight and Elmer Herbert “Hub” Watson, with her sister Ila. Fay attended school in Klein, Montana, and graduated in 1951. She met her future husband, Carl Smith, at a community dance, and they married in April of 1954, dancing through their journey until Carl passed away in 1987.
Fay raised her daughters Evonne and Linda and moved with the construction company to Roy, Montana, then to Ekalaka, Circle, Drummond, Superior, and Stevensville, where she opened a floral shop and pizza parlor with her family. In 1983 she moved with the family to Polson, where they opened Regatta Pizza and Polson Flower Shop. Fay loved the flower shop and enjoyed working there for 15 years before her retirement. Fay traveled extensively with her new dancing partner Roy Winslow, especially enjoying big band cruises.
Fay passed away May 31, after a short illness, surrounded by her family, Evonne and Matt O’Neill; Linda, Bill, Mara, Ana, Kai, Claire, Joseph and Billy Brownell; Ila, Jim, Jayme, Connie and Gary Reighard, and her four legged companion, Brandi.
Fay was a beloved mother, grandmother and sister and we will think of her always dancing.
