Editor,
I play golf and I live year around in Polson. I am thankful for the care given to the Polson Bay Golf Course by Roger Wallace and his staff, for the superb condition in which Pat Nowlen and his staff keep the course and for the great improvements and food Suzie Tommer has brought to the restaurant. I send compliments to them not just from me, but from visiting friends and relatives who notice as well when they come here during the course of the year.
I am unthankful for the limited vision of the city council. Since I live about six miles from the center of town and beyond the city limits, unlike our school district, the city considers me no different than an out-of-state part-time visitor and votes to increase my cost to play golf each year. The value for golf on our great course is still there for me, but I resent the city’s attitude toward my overall value to the community throughout the year. In kind, my response is to feel no obligation to spend my discretionary money inside the city limits.
Of course I still do at times, but the city and I have both made a conscious decision about our relationship and I honor it by choosing to spend many more such dollars outside the city limits. Too bad the city can’t problem solve this issue more like Whitefish does.
