ST. IGNATIUS – Dozens of airplanes flew into the St. Ignatius Airport on Sunday for the annual fly-in breakfast including a small one-person sized aircraft, experimental planes, and the PC-12 turboprop air ambulance for what has become a traditional event to end the Good Old Days weekend. Every year for the past eleven years, the airport has put on the fly-in to bring the community out to mingle among the pilots and airplanes to allow people to see the airport and learn about aviation. Bryanne Zempel, 9, and other volunteers woke up early to get a huckleberry pancake, egg, and ham breakfast ready for the community. She said she had never seen so many eggs. Pilot and announcer Mike Kuefler said ninety pounds of eggs were scrambled, 160 pounds of ham were sliced and hundreds of pancakes cooked. About 500 people attended the event this year. Local businesses donated prizes for the public to win and pilots entered a drawing for free fuel. During the event, organizers raised money for the Valley Bank Scholarship with a plastic duck race down the canal. The scholarship will be given to selected high school seniors.
