Editor,

Have you ever asked yourself, “What the heck is going on here in our country, and how are we going to fix it?”

Well, I have, many times. And just this last week I attended a picnic at the Bison Range organized by some Baha’i friends. Upon reflection of our time together some answers to this question began to come clear. (Note: Baha’i is a religion teaching the essential worth of all religions and the unity and equality of all people.)

In this picnic setting, just being involved in our experience together was inspiring to me. It was inspiring because some answers leaped out at me to the above question. And all these answers point directly to how I relate to others, think about people different from me, and how I so often leap to judgments rather than stopping, listening, and dialoguing with others.

It got me to thinking about what it would be like if we, right here in this Mission Valley, were to start a person-to-person and group-to-group movement based upon principles of unity, sharing, listening, equality and the many aspects of love-based thinking.

If we adults started “meeting and greeting” regularly based upon these principles, just think what affect this could have upon our youth as we learned and grew in such a positive interactive movement.Well, perhaps this is something to think about. I do believe it would go a long way in answering the question: “What the heck is going on here in our country, and how are we going to fix it?”
