John H. DuCharme

MISSOULA – John H. DuCharme, age 67, passed away on Sept. 21, 2017, at St. Patrick Hospital in Missoula. John was born in St. Ignatius on Jan. 7, 1950. He is the son of Basil and Vivian DuCharme.

John grew up on the south shore of Flathead Lake at DuCharme Lane. He attended school in Polson and graduated from Polson High School in 1968. John joined the U.S. Navy in May of 1969 and was discharged in September of 1972 and was discharged from the Naval Reserve in May of 1975. While in the Navy, John was trained as a dental hygienist.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, John went to work for Tribal Health in Polson as a dental hygienist until his retirement.

In John’s younger days, he enjoyed travelling with friends. He was an avid golfer at the Polson Country Club. When John moved to the country on DuCharme Lane, he enjoyed gardening and giving away the produce which consisted mostly of carrots, tomatoes and squash. John also liked to make jam, jelly and apple butter, which he shared.

John enjoyed having company and always had a candy dish on his table to treat his visitors. His nieces and nephews loved to visit because they were allowed to help themselves to the candy dish. He was a kind and caring man to all his friends and family. John was a U of M Grizzly fan and attended several of their games.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Gary and Harold (Bud); and his sisters, Nadine DuCharme Couture and Myrna DuCharme Johnson.

He is survived by his brothers: Ken (Mick) from Washington; Herb and wife Marilyn of Evaro; Fred (Butch) of California; Calvin (Toke) and Linda; Richard (Beeb) and George; plus his sister, Carol DuCharme Tenney and brother-in-law, Jerry Tenney, all of Polson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews as well.
