Editor,
During the spring and summer of this year, I watched with growing concern the buildup of trees, branches, and other debris at the base of a wooden railroad trestle over a creek flowing into Moiese Valley. If the debris had remained, the trestle could have collapsed with the addition of snow and ice at the accidental dam, blocking the only road into Moiese Valley at its south end. This road is used by emergency vehicles, school buses, and valley residents. Seeing no effort to remove the debris, I telephoned Montana Rail Link’s engineers to alert them to the buildup and request its removal. I would like to publicly thank MRL’s staff for their prompt and courteous response to my request, with particular mention of Randy Gustin and Nick Bailey. Their efforts helped avert a potentially serious problem.
