Editor,

Recently I received a request for contribution to Paralyzed Veterans of America. Having learned to question the status, or how legitimate a charitable organization might be, I checked a publication called AIP (American Institute of Philanthropy) at our library. Guess what? They have an F rating, meaning that a good portion of monies sent their way for veterans is used for fund raising, administration, salaries of $230-$251,000.

Anyone wishing to contribute to an A-rated organization for veterans can donate to Fisher House Foundation, Intrepid Fallen Heroes or the National Military Families Association. You can learn contact information from the AIP bulletin at the library in Polson. And while there, check out some other groups soliciting charitable contributions. Believe me, it’s interesting.
