POLSON – More than 400 athletes, coaches and spectators filled the Linderman gymnasium on Friday and Saturday for the 42nd edition of the Owen Invitational.

This year’s field was one of the strongest, with 18 teams representing schools from around the state of Montana and Idaho.

“Actually, the tournament went well,” organizer and Polson Pirate wrestling coach Bob Owen said. “It ran really smoothly.”

As a team, the Pirates finished third with 140.5 points, while Missoula Sentinel won the tournament with 193 points and Frenchtown placed second with 161 points.

“Our front liners, the senior and juniors who have been with us quite a while wrestled really well,” Owen said.

The Pirates earned seven medals. Parker Adler went 4-0 in his weight class, taking home the 152-pound weight class title, while Rene Pierre (113) and Bridger Wenzel (138) placed second. Maysn Cowell (103), Cameron Brown (145) and Hunter Fritsch (170) all earned third place finishes. Noah Humphrey grabbed a fourth-place finish in the 205 weight class.

For the Ronan Chiefs, Seth Cheff was the lone wrestler to place in the tournament. Cheff lost 3-0 to Cameron Brown for fourth place in the 145-pound class.

Mission Bulldog senior Gus Bosley dominated his weight class, winning all four of his matches via pinfalls. Bosley recorded pin times of 15, 39, 18 and 43 seconds on his way to the 182-pound title.

“It felt great to come out and win the first tournament of the year,” Bosley said.

The Polson and Ronan wrestling teams will now turn their attention to the Mining City Duels in Butte as the Mission/Charlo team heads to the Superior Invitational Tournament next Friday and Saturday.
