Editor,
Don Bell has done an excellent job in the Lake County Sheriff’s Office over the last three years. Lake County’s law enforcements issues are well understood by him and I think it is unfortunate that someone new to the area has made such a determined attack on our local law enforcement.
Sheriff Bell has dealt with budget shortfalls and an overcrowded jail situation. He has created innovative programs that benefit all of Lake County. He is instilling in his department an attitude of positive public service. He is visible and approachable.
The letter to the editor last week claiming no leadership and no vision was unfortunate, misinformed and self-serving.
We know that Mr. Coffman wants to be sheriff but he needs to quit attacking the current sheriff. Lake County’s law enforcement issues are complex and the quick overview by an outsider is a bit shallow.
I think we all would welcome an easy solution to increasing drug crime, an overcrowded jail and declining financial resources. I am sure Sheriff Bell would welcome any constructive input. Slinging rhetoric carelessly in the direction of the sheriff’s office does not meet that threshold.
If you have questions reach out to Sheriff Bell. He works for you.
