I am definitely voting for Don Bell for Lake County Sheriff. Don has done so much to return honesty and good morals to the sheriff’s office. Don has proved his determination to hold the sheriff’s office to the highest standards of integrity. I know we can trust him. I consider honesty among the greatest factors important to me when deciding who the chief law enforcement officer is where I live, and Donald R. Bell is the officer I want at the helm of this important team of law officers.
A major change in the Lake County Sheriff’s Office that I can personally speak to with authority, as a retired Lake County deputy and 2010 sheriff candidate, is the lack of controversy in the office. Six to eight years ago it was nothing but turmoil because of bad actors and they are all gone. Don has provided the office with a level of stability that has restored much of the public’s faith.
Another thing about Don is that he is very passionate about fighting domestic and sexual violence and substance abuse which are the major criminal issues plaguing our county. Also, the sheriff’s office is more diverse. The office has hired some very qualified women as deputies and in detention (I think seven total?) There are more tribal members working for the sheriff’s office (three including Don that I know about).
Overall, the current sheriff has three less sworn officers than when Don Bell took over - due to funding. Even with this in mind, he has reduced overtime by 3,500 hours per year. The officers are out in the community and they are highly accountable for their work product and performance. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is doing more work with fewer resources and with honesty and integrity. Please vote to re-elect Don Bell for Lake County Sheriff.
