Editor,
I have lived in Lake County my entire life; my grandfather settled here in the 1920s. I was a Polson City Councilman for 25 years and I’m a Polson Flathead Historical Museum board member. My family has loved this community, worked here, and some have died here. We’ve devoted ourselves to serving our community through charitable work and just being good neighbors. This is our home and we love it here. Up until about 15 years ago, we didn’t even know what “meth” was and heroin was unheard of in the valley. The drug problem that started as a trickle coming from outside has turned into a tsunami. We’ve watched drug use explode and become a cancer, bringing with it vandalism, theft, child abuse and violence. Illegal drug use is destroying our community and stealing our quality of life.
I’ve seen a lot of local boys become sheriff through the years, some have been good and some not so good but now I think it’s time we try something else. It’s time we take back our community and to do that we need a sheriff who has the training and experience to make that happen. I’ve met David Coffman and found him to be very personable, a great guy but it wasn’t until I read his resume that I knew we had to elect him as sheriff. His background in law enforcement is impressive; working for one of the largest sheriff ’s departments in the country has given him experiences that you just can’t get in a rural community. He was an outstanding leader in a field of hundreds of officers in a very rough town. I believe in David Coffman and I’m grateful he’s willing to bring his leadership here.
Lake County has big city problems and we need a sheriff with the kind of big city experience that Mr. Coffman brings to the table in order to fight these problems and help us take back our community.
