Editor,
Is our society healthy and stable?
God promises that if we are diligent to keep His law-word and recognize appropriate authority of the God ordained institutions of family, church, and state, we would be blessed with a healthy, peaceful and prosperous society and nation.
Examine the scriptures regarding the responsibilities and duties of these three institutions.
Understandably so, God granted the most basic of authority to the family: birthing, nurturing, and training children, creation of wealth, performing charity, etc.
Of the three institutions, only the family creates wealth. Both church and state depend on the family for finances to fulfill their duties.
The authority and responsibility of the church is to declare truth from scripture, equip the family by teaching, exhort the civil magistrates to justice, and admonish them when necessary.
The authority of the state is limited; uphold justice by punishing the wicked (violators of life, liberty and property) and secure the unalienable rights of the righteous.
This “sphere sovereignty” view represents what the scriptures teach. Contrarily, the humanist/Marxist view of “separation of church and state” diminishes the role of the church by isolating it, making it practically irrelevant and even impotent.
In the historical American view, the First Amendment places restrictions on the federal government, which is barred from establishing, governing, controlling, or regulating the church (which the federal government currently does via the 501 (c)3 tax exemption.) The humanist/ Marxist view handcuffs the church; the American view handcuffs the state.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” -2 Chronicles 7:14
