Editor,

Alert. Alert. There is an article I feel we all should read and digest. It carries a very significant message and step in progress for our wonderful valley. It is entitled: “Leaders build connections to foster change.” (Valley Journal, April 25, pg. 8.)

For me, the powerful work being accomplished through this year-long nonprofit project called Leadership Flathead Reservation (LFR) is not only vital for this area but is the ultimate answer to our national and international challenges as well.

As reported, “Judy Preston, project organizer, said the group meets monthly to bring people together with discussion, networking, and education to start working towards changing the problem.” The problem being referred to in this article is the divisive relationship among people with varying opinions for things like the water compact and even taxes.

You will find the full page (two columns, two pictures) very leading- edge, inspiring, filled with wisdom on how to address problems by, as reported, “Solving the fracture among people on the reservation. This is about connecting people who ordinarily might not meet to talk about a variety of difficult issues.”

To me, the message in this important article is totally relevant to the present stagnation and dangerous divisiveness within our congressional and executive branches of government and world powers.

The VJ reports, “Preston said the idea to start LFR program began a couple years ago when a few community members started talking about the fracture among people on the reservation.”

Does this “fracture” sound familiar at all levels within our nation? Thank you Judy Preston, MVP General Manager Jean Matt, and all the people working to heal through connection, communication, and being willing to actually listen to each other.

This, in my opinion, is proof positive how local actions by “We The People” can change our national picture. It could well be the only way.
