Charlo track and field wins District 14-C meet

POLSON — Behind the performances of Stephen Delaney and Rachel Hoyt, the Charlo Vikings and Lady Vikings ran away with the 14-C District meet titles May 10 in Polson. The boys scored 196 points to take the crown and girls dominated their opponents 226.5, more than a 100 points second place Superior and third place Arlee.

Delaney won the 200, 400 and the 300 and 110-meter hurdles. He was also part of the winning 400-meter relay team of Jacen Peterson, Tra Ludeman and Tyler Delaney.

Charlo’s 1,600-meter relay team of Tyler Delaney, Kail Pope, Connor Daugherty and Webb O’Neill was also first.

O’Neill was also the victor in the triple jump and the pole vault events, and Ludeman won the long jump.

The Arlee boys finished third behind the impressive times of Donovan McDonald who won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs.

The Warriors' Zach Carver finished first in the 100, second in the 200 and third in the 400. Sam Nelson was second in the javelin and the long jump. Teammate Justin Adams also finished second in the discus.

For the Lady Vikings, Hoyt swept the hurdling events and picked up a win in the high jump. The Charlo girls also won all the relay races.

Deondra and Sienna Brown took first and third in the 200-meter, while teammate Aspen Runkel was first in the 400.

Dawn Blevins was first in the 800-meter and the javelin.

The Scarlets’ were paced by the performances of Becca Nelson and Rachelle Meidinger.

Nelson won the discus and was second in the javelin. Rachelle took the shot put event while sister Aspen Meidinger was second. Rachelle was also second in the discus. Whitney Malatare picked up second in the long and triple jump events.

“The girls are good in the field events and the boys are more competitive in running,” said Arlee head coach Russ Baker. “We hope to get as many kids through as we can to try to qualify for Divisional and then for State.”
