ST. IGNATIUS — There’s little room for errors in softball, especially when playing a close game against a competitive team.

At Florence, the Lady Bulldogs faced an equally talented Falcons team April 24. Florence swept the doubleheader, winning the first game 3-2 and the late game 8-3. The two games marked the first losses for the Lady Bulldog team.

“The first game we were right in it … it was a tight match,” said head coach Susan Weaselhead. “We had out and infield errors that allowed them to get hits. There is no room for mistakes; they are a competitive team.”

Janeal McDonald went a combined 4-for-6 with two runs batted in to lead St. Ignatius.

On April 27 and 28, the Lady Bulldogs came back and picked up four straight wins in two doubleheaders against Drummond and Troy.

At home, the Lady Bulldogs destroyed Drummond 13-1 and 26-1. Catcher Alyssa Doty went 5 for 5 in the in the second game and 7 for 8 overall. Loren Erickson was 2 for 2 in the first and 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs in the second.

“I was really pleased with Alyssa Doty. She’s been keeping steals to a minimum,” Weaselhead added. “Drummond is a young team but it was still good to get the bat on the ball.”

She was also pleased with Courtney Charlo who saw some varsity pitching time as she took over at the mound for Erickson during the game.

The next day the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Troy were they picked up two more wins to improve 8-2 overall.

At Troy, St. Ignatius won the first game 10-2 and sealed the victory over the Trojans 10-0 in the second. In 12 innings, Erickson allowed seven hits, struck out 14 and walked four.

Janeal McDonald was 3 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs in the opener and Kinley Pope and Serena Long each singled twice.

“The goal was to win four games this weekend and they did it … The girls and myself are making some adjustments but its better to learn mid-season then at Divisionals,” Weaselhead shared. “The girls have kept their focus and hopefully it doesn’t rain on us this week.”

The Lady Bulldogs are on the road against Corvallis Thursday, Plains Friday and Deer Lodge Saturday.
