ST. IGNATIUS – Friday the 13th proved to be an unlucky day for the Missoula Big Sky JV team. It was the first time the Misson/Arlee/Charlo and Missoula teams have played each other.
The hosting Lady Bulldogs handed the Big Sky JV team a hearty loss with 17 hits, taking a 20-3 win in nonconference softball action.
St. Ignatius scored 11 times in the first inning and ended the game in the fifth because of the 10-run margin rule.
“I thought they came out hitting,” said head coach Susan Weaselhead. “The Big Sky JV team definitely made some errors on defending and that helped us. But I thought they had a couple of girls who could hit the ball.”
Kinley Pope was 4 for 4 with two doubles and a triple.
“(Kinley) had the bats going, and one hit the fence,” Weaselhead said, noting Pope’s potential home run. “She also had some good defensive plays.”
Teammate Janeal McDonald was also solid for the Lady Bulldogs, going 3 for 4 with a double.
Weaselhead said the early lead also gave her chance to get more players involved in the action.
“It was good to get some subs in a varsity game,” Weaselhead said. “It gave everyone a chance at bat. It’s going to help us out and get our bats going when we play Ronan Tuesday.”
St. Ignatius, 3-0, hosted Ronan Tuesday.
