News from Mission Valley Rises

LAKE COUNTY — Mission Valley Rises is a non-partisan, community-led group that has been working in Lake County since 2016. The group was formed in order to sponsor civil dialogue on the issues that divide our community. We strongly believe that it is possible to find common ground and to move forward in ways that benefit us all. There may be no perfect answers to the difficult problems of health care, education - or the best ways to foster family, community and prosperity in Lake County - but we will not find those answers if we cannot discuss the issues openly and with compassion for one another.

Lake County citizens are already on the move - with 71.9 percent of registered voters turning out to vote and increased levels of volunteerism. We want to foster this same level of interest, involvement and civil dialogue as we prepare for the upcoming Montana Legislature session, starting on Jan. 7.

As a community, we all benefit from better understanding how the legislature works. In many states it is difficult to have a face-to-face relationship with state legislators, but we can do this in Montana - giving all of us the solid framework we need to interact during the coming months.

Citizens need to hear from our legislators, understand what they are thinking, what they are prioritizing, and how they plan to move forward on important issues. Legislators need to be acquainted with the variety of citizens they serve. They need to meet us as individuals and to understand how citizens see their own needs.

For these reasons, Mission Valley Rises has organized a pre-legislative session forum for our state legislators. We hope the citizens of Lake County will join us on Dec. 18, from 6-8 p.m., at the Ronan Community Center, as our legislators describe their plans and take our questions. Hot drinks and light snacks will be served. Come out, meet your neighbors, meet your legislators, and engage in lively conversation.

Mission Valley Rises is an open, community-led organization and we hope more people will learn about us and join in this important work. We generally meet on the third Monday of each month (except for this December).
