NORTHWEST MONTANA — The Flathead - Kootenai Chapter of Montana Wilderness Association invites high school seniors who are planning to attend college in the fall to apply for a generous scholarship award by expressing in written form their passion for the outdoors and wild places. Eligible applicants from Flathead, Lake, Lincoln or Sanders Counties, will respond to a selected quote from Bob Marshall with their thoughts and experiences from the wilderness. Essay, poem, fiction, and short story submissions will be accepted. One $500 scholarship award will be given for first place in each county, and two $250 runner-up awards per county will be awarded based on the author’s relation to the theme and passion for wild places.
The association will also offer two $500 scholarship awards for students attending or planning to attend Flathead Valley Community College. FVCC students with an intent to pursue a natural resources-related field education are invited to apply, even if they are not currently enrolled in a natural resources-focused major.
Deadline for all scholarship submissions is April 19. More information and prompts can be obtained by emailing: amy.pearson@asu.edu.
