RONAN — The hum of sewing machines, laughter, the aromas of soup and fresh coffee were all clues that the Mission Mountain Quilt Guild was in residence at the Ronan Alliance Church on Jan. 7.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., 18 members of the guild gathered for a sewing day. Many stitched baby blankets for area newborns, while others worked on their own projects.
Using donated fabric and time, the guild finished and donated about 27 quilts last year to hospitals for newborns, victims of home fires, nursing homes and the youth home, according to Deleen Winters from the quilt guild.
Donita Reeve from Lakeside Quilt Company presented short programs on types of batting and a new way to piece quilt backs that saves fabric. Guild meetings are the first Tuesday of every month at 7 p.m. at the Alliance Church in Ronan. Visitors and guests are always welcome.
