Both the Charlo boys and girls headed to Victor this past weekend to open their season at the Victor Tip Off Tournament. The boys picked up an early 2-0 record after a big win over Darby, followed by a tightly contested game against Victor.
On Friday, the Vikings took the court against Darby, where five Charlo scorers finished the game scoring double digits.
Kolton Andrews led the way with 18 points, while Dillon Delaney finished with 15. Webb O’Neill and Tra Ludeman both scored an additional 11, while Stephen Delaney had 13.
Charlo began the first quarter with an offensive burst, leaving Darby with an early 20-6 deficit at the beginning of the second quarter. The Vikings continued to roll as their halftime lead swelled to 38-18.
The second half was more of the same for Charlo as they won their season opener 76-51.
On Saturday, the Charlo boys were tested as they edged out Victor by outscoring the Pirates 13-4 in the fourth quarter.
Victor led with a 14-10 lead after the first quarter, but Charlo rallied in the second quarter to tie the game 22-22 at halftime.
The Pirates hung in with Charlo in the third, outscoring the Vikings 10-8, but Charlo held Victor to four points in the fourth to pull out the 43-36 win.
Stephen Delaney led Charlo with 14 points, while Dillon Delaney and Webb O’Neill both added another nine points each. Ludeman finished with six points.
The Lady Vikings also began their season with a 2-0 record as they crushed Darby by 42 points on Friday, followed by a 37-point win over Victor on Saturday.
Against Darby, the Lady Vikings got off to a solid start, leading the Lady Tigers 14-5 at the end of the first quarter. Charlo scored double digits each quarter to close out the game. Rachel Hoyt led the Lady Vikings with 18 points, while senior Kinley Pope added 14. Teammate Dawn Blevins added another 10.
On Saturday, the Lady Vikings took the court against tournament host Victor, where the girls’ defense crippled Victor, holding the Lady Pirates to single digit scores each quarter.
Charlo jumped out to a quick 12-4 lead after the end of the first quarter, and led 25-8 at the half.
Charlo continued to put up big shots in the second half, winning big 57-20.
Pope led Charlo with a game-high 16 points, while Deondra Brown added 10.
