Jalen Bell sweeps jumping events at Divisional Tournament

CORVALLIS — The Chiefs finished fourth overall with 72 points at the Western B Divisional meet in Corvallis, and the Maidens were fifth with 48 points.
Ronan leaper Jalen Bell continued his dominance heading into State by sweeping the jumping events. He was first in the long jump with 21 feet, 3.75 inches, and first in the triple jump with 42 feet and 7 inches. Bell was also sixth in the high jump.
Long-distance runner Paden Alexander also proved his might with second-place finishes in the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs. Alexander also placed third in the 800-meter with a time of 2:06.37.
Sprinter Jake Skelton was third in the 100-meter with a time of 11.68, and Marcus Hungerford was sixth in the 400. Wyatt MadPlume and Danny Romero backed up Alexander in the 3,200-meter by taking fifth and sixth. Teammates Shelby Grant and Connor Benn picked up fifth and sixth-place finishes in the pole vault event.
The Maidens were led by the performances of shot-putters Twyla Hogge and Aspen Jore, who placed second and fourth in the event. Distance runner Ashley Courville also shined in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 races and earned a trip to State.
Jenny Larsson and Sydnee Clairmont were second and fourth in the high jump. Teammate Stephanie Lewandowski picked up a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles and a fifth place in the long jump.
The top six individuals and relay teams advanced to the State B meet, which begins Friday in Bozeman.
