CORVALLIS — Behind the swift performance of Stephen Delaney, the Viking track and field team took second with a score of 75 behind powerhouse Darby’s 100 points.
Delaney won the 200-meter run, 110-meter hurdles, 300-meter hurdles and was second in the 400. Teammate Tra Ludeman was second in the 110-meter hurdles, and Kail Pope was fifth in the 300-meter hurdles. Webb O’Neill took the pole vault event with a height of 13 feet, 3 inches and was sixth in the triple jump.
The team of Stephen Delaney, Tyler Delaney, Ludeman and Jacen Peterson won the 400-meter relay in a time of 45.47.
“I’m ready to see where we stack up against the rest of the state,” said Charlo head coach Bret Thompson.
Arlee’s Zack Carver was third in the 100-meter run and fourth in the 200. Sam Nelson was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 7 inches. Donovan McDonald was fourth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:47.31.
On the girls’ side, the Lady Vikings placed fourth as a team with 46.5 points.
Deondra Brown was fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 200. Rachel Hoyt and Aspen Runkel went fifth and sixth in the 100-meter hurdles. Runkel was also fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and third in the 400. Both Charlo relay teams picked up second- place finishes.
The Arlee Scarlets also had a couple of high place finishers, with Rachelle Meidinger placing third in the shot put followed by twin sister Aspen at sixth. Teammate Becca Nelson had a good showing in the javelin, taking second in the event with a throw of 125 feet, 8 inches to edge out Charlo’s Dawn Blevins, who took third. Nelson also placed fifth in the discus.
The top five individuals and relay teams qualified for the State C meet, which begins Friday in Butte.
