BUTTE — Stephen Delaney had a big weekend. From sweeping the hurdling events at the State C track and field championships for the second year in a row to graduating high school, the young athlete excelled in all areas. He led his team through a grueling battle with rival Darby, which the two teams eventually ended in a 63-point tie for the state championship, well ahead of second-place Victor with 41.

Viking Webb O’Neill cleared the bar at 13 feet to be crowned pole vault champion. Delaney also took third in the 200-meter race and joined Tyler Delaney, Tra Ludeman and Jacen Peterson on the second-place 400-meter relay team. Charlo was also second in the 1,600-meter relay, and Ludeman followed Delaney with a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles. Kail Pope was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles.

The Lady Vikings, who ended up fifth in the team standings, fielded a second-place 1,600-meter relay team of Jordan Ludeman, Aspen Runkel, Rachel Hoyt and Deondra Brown (4:16.59). The team of Runkel, Sienna Brown, Deondra Brown and Michaela Krahn also took third in the 400-meter relay in 52.73.

Dawn Blevins medaled in the javelin toss, finishing in third place with a throw of 123 feet, 1 inch. Runkel hurdled her way to fourth in the 300-meter event with a time of 48.27.
