The imposition of sentencing for a Washington state woman was deferred for a period of three years, and she was ordered to pay restitution of $10,980 in an exploitation case.
Shawn Star Field, 33, pled guilty to felony exploitation of an older person during a change of plea hearing in District Court at Polson on Aug. 14. In exchange for her guilty plea to the exploitation charge, prosecutors agreed to dismiss one count of felony deceptive practices. District Judge James Manley made the judgment on Oct. 2.
According to charging documents, a woman – born in 1935 – called the Lake County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 2, 2018, to report that more than $4,000 was missing from her bank account. As she was making the report, Field allegedly texted her, saying she had just deposited $200 back into the account and admitted to making the unauthorized transactions. Records show the unauthorized transactions occurred between April and August of 2018, which is when the victim employed Field.
A second employee, Merlyn James Snyder, 37, pled guilty on July 3 to exploitation of an older person as part of an agreement that dismissed one count of deceptive practices. The imposition of sentencing for Snyder was deferred for three years, and he was ordered to pay restitution of $10,980. The judge ordered both Field and Snyder to pay restitution to ensure that the victim is compensated.
