After dropping seven straight games, the Lady Bulldogs have found their winning edge.
Mission defeated Ronan 39-32 on Jan. 10 and Troy 37-28 at home Jan. 14.
“It was nice to get two wins,” head coach Les Rice said, crediting key three-pointers and hitting free throws. In the fourth quarter of both games, the Lady Bulldogs were steady from the line. They went 8-13 at Ronan and 4-5 against Troy.
Senior post Bryanna Steele was an offensive force in both games, scoring a combined 25 points.
Against Troy, Steele scored 15, and in Ronan, she tallied 10.
“(Steele) had a big weekend and shot the ball well, especially from the three-point line,” Rice added.
Loren Erickson added nine points in the Troy and Ronan games, including a couple of crucial three-pointers.
“We had great contribution,” Rice said of the team in both games. “Cecelia Koskela had a great game; offensively it doesn’t show, but she did well rebounding.”
The Lady Bulldogs are now 2-7 and face three teams with solid records this week.
“The number one thing we need to work on is turnovers. We’ve got to take care of the ball and have some patience and look for a good shot,” Rice said. “We have a busy week.”
Mission plays Arlee Jan. 17, Charlo on Jan. 19 and Deer Lodge at home Jan. 21.
