Locals do well at Little Guy state wrestling meet

Standing room only barely describes the situation in the Missoula Sentinel gym March 26 as young athletes from around the state came together to compete in the Little Guy Wrestling State Championships.
Family, friends and supporters of the wrestlers filled both the upper and lower levels of the gym all day for a competition that started early in the morning and continued into the evening. Fans watched the action-filled floor of the gym as the mats were filled with as many as a dozen matches at a time. With coaches, and more than a few parents, yelling instructions to the young wrestlers, it was a scene of action-filled chaos.
From that chaos came several local state champions as Ronan came away with four top finishes in the competition's three levels of competition while Polson secured three and Mission and Arlee earned two top finished each.
Ronan finished the day with 17 top-four finishes as Noah Cheff, Parker Adler and Koby Garcia all won their divisions at the Novice level and Mylan Caye won the 125-pound division at the Jr. High level.
Polson had nine wrestlers finish in the top-four in their divisions as Hunter Fritsch won the 158-pound division of the Novice level, Cameron Brown won the 75-pound division of the Middle level and Wyatt Ducharme won the 100-pound division of the Middle level.
Mission also made a strong showing at the competition, winning two first-place medals and placing 11 in the top-four of their divisions. Emilio Bravo took home the gold medal in the 187-pound division of the Middle level for Mission while Greg Weatherwax won the 90-pound division at the Jr. High level.
Arlee also had a pair of top finishers while placing five wrestlers in the top-four in their divisions. Both of Arlee's top finishes came at the Jr. High level as Alex Bertollt won the 145-pound division while Calvin Hendren was the winner of the 240-pound weight class.
Ronan was the only local squad to pick up a top-four team finish as they tied with Columbia Fals for third place in the Large Team division of the competition.
