RONAN – The Ronan High School boys and girls basketball teams split a doubleheader with visiting Polson Pirates and Lady Pirates on Friday night. The Maidens defeated the Lady Pirates 61-11, while the Pirates won against the Chiefs 63-48.
In the first game of the evening, the Lady Pirates struggled to score in the first and second quarters as the Maidens took a commanding 38-4 lead into the locker room at the half. In the second half, the Maiden bench held the Lady Pirates to seven points to win 61-11.
“I thought our girls played excellently,” said Maiden head coach Steve Woll. “All twelve girls were in it. I was happy with their performance. They came to play.”
Regan Clairmont netted a game-high 15 points for the Maidens followed by Jaylea Lunceford who chipped in 10 points.
With a packed gym looking on, the Pirates took a slight two-point lead into halftime as both squads battled in a back-and-forth first half. Up 30-28, the Pirates outscored Ronan 22-13 in the third quarter to pull away from the Chiefs for the 63-48 road win.
“I thought they played pretty well in this big setting,” said Pirate head coach Randy Kelley of his team’s performance.
Braunson Henriksen led four Pirates in double figures by scoring 13 points, while Trevor Lake posted 12 points. Anton Lefthand added 11 points, and Colton Graham chipped in 10 points.
For the Chiefs, Leonard Burke netted a game-high 16 points.
