Bravo and hats off to all the energetic people who worked on the FLIC film festival, which ran in Polson recently. All those efforts resulted in a wonderful cultural gift to our community.
I was able to catch three intriguing films over the weekend. “Beyond Dreams” told the story of a Brazilian mountain climber who, against all odds, was able to summit Mt. Everest after a horrendous biking accident. Gorgeous scenery and cinematography brought the adventure to life.
“Wuthering Heights,” filmed in England and Montana, was a fascinating look inside a classic tale of English Gothic romance. “After So Many Days” followed the ambitious journey of Jim and Sam, two talented musicians who pledged to perform every day for a year in esoteric venues all over the U.S. and Europe. A shout out is due to Mission Valley Live for hosting a concert in Ronan featuring these two musicians preceding the FLIC weekend.
Thought provoking and uplifting, the themes running through these three films include: following your dreams, hard work, perseverance, passion for life, romantic love, adventure, natural beauty, truth and honesty, commitment, brotherhood, beautiful human beings, healing and spreading love through travel. My favorite scene: a roadside concert given to a curious herd of cows. My favorite line: “That’s one thing I love about life ... I just came in here to buy bananas!”
Thank you to all those responsible for shining some bright lights through film in the middle of a bleak January. We need all the light we can get.
