DARBY — The St. Ignatius-Charlo and Arlee teams traveled to Darby to compete in the Darby Invitational Jan. 28.

Several grapplers walked away with second and third place finishes but Jacen Petersen led all after taking first in the 160-pound category.

Jamie Mullins picked up a couple of wins, pinning Rob Carew of Thompson Falls in 3:55 and Noxon’s Austin Johnson in 4:18, taking fourth overall.

Arlee’s Cameron Dominick and Mission’s Casey Nitschke battled it out in the 135-weight semifinals with Dominick winning a 17-6 decision over Nitschke. Dominick then faced Kenny Thomas of Corvallis/Darby who pinned the Warrior in 3:55.

Nathan Bertollt (145) of Arlee was pinned by Ben Conover of Thompson Falls in 5:58 and then won a 14-11 decision over Brady Morey of Hamilton/Victor to meet up with Wyatt Jessop in the third-place battle.

Bertollt lost to Jessop in a 16-0 decision to place fourth overall.

Jacen Petersen dominated the 160-pound category with a pin over Plains’ Joe Reyna in 1:51 and another pin against Zach Thompkins of Hamilton/Victor to finally win a 13-6 decision against Quentin Denton of Ronan. Arlee’s Leif Rova competed in the same division and took third overall after pinning Thompkins in 2:45.
