FRENCHTOWN — The Polson Lady Pirate softball team gave the Lady Broncs a good fight Thursday, but in the end, Polson couldn’t best Frenchtown’s home-field advantage. The 9-8 loss was tough to take for the defending state champion Lady Pirates, but head coach Larry Smith knows his team will bounce back.
“Sure, you want to win, but I knew (Frenchtown was) loaded and they were waiting for us,” he said. “It was just two good teams going head to head … maybe it’ll be a different story when (they come to our) home.”
Defensively, the Lady Pirates played a near-perfect game; Polson just needs more consistent hitting to top strong teams like Frenchtown, Smith explained. And since former Southwestern A powerhouse Frenchtown has moved to Polson’s own Northwestern A conference this year, the Lady Pirates need all the conference wins they can get.
“Every game’s gonna count,” Smith said.
For the Lady Pirates, Tina Marquardt was 3 for 4 and hit a two-run homer in the fifth inning for a total of three RBIs.
Polson traveled to Columbia Falls Tuesday for another conference match before hosting Libby at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 12.
