Ronan-St. Ignatius boys, Arlee girls dominate field events

RONAN — There were several multi-winners at the non-scoring track and field meet in Ronan April 3. Competing teams included Thompson Falls, Darby, Lincoln, Drummond, Frenchtown, Hot Springs, Ronan-St. Ignatius and Arlee.
BOYS
Ronan-St. Ignatius’ Jalen Bell leaped past the competition in the jumping events, taking first (20-.5) in the long jump, followed by teammate Ryce Hegwood jumping to fifth place (18.9-.5). Jalen Bell was first in the triple jump with a leap of 41 feet and 8 inches, with Arlee’s Sam Nelson finishing a close second at 39 feet and 5.25 inches. Bell was also fifth (5-8) in the high jump.
Gerhardt Lucas was second (40-9) in the shot put and Barrett Sargent was fifth with a throw of 38-8.5, and also sixth in the 100-meter run in a time of 11.75.
Michael Knabe of St. Ignatius-Ronan was fifth (9-6) in the pole vault.
In the 200-meter, Riley Dennis was second (24.46) behind Frenchtown’s Anthony Lowery, who crossed the line at 23.56 seconds.
In the distance races, Paden Alexander was second (10.33) in both the 3,200-meter run and in the 1,600-meter (5.02).
Danny Romero was fifth in the 3,200-meter and 1,600-meter races with times of 11.27 and 5.17.
In relay, Ronan-St. Ignatius was second in the 400-meter relay in a time of 45.99. Arlee finished fourth in a time of 46.57.
In the 1,600-meter relay, Ronan-St. Ignatius was third (3.48.30), and Arlee was sixth (3.51.16).
The Warriors also had a couple more individual finishers: Brandon Hergett was third in the 100-meter run with a time of 11.50, and Andrew Lommen was fourth in the discus with a throw of 118-5.5.
GIRLS
The Arlee Scarlets proved a powerhouse in the throwing and jumping events. The Scarlets took first, second, fourth and fifth in the discus event. Arlee’s Becca Nelson and Aspen Meidinger topped the discus, taking first and second. Nelson’s winning throw of (97-2.5) beat out teammate Meidinger’s toss of 88 feet 10.25 inches. Rachelle Meidinger was fourth (86-9.5), and Jenna Pablo was fifth (85-8.5).
Nelson also placed fourth in the high jump with a jump of 4 feet 8 inches, followed by fellow Scarlet Whitney Malatare with the same jump height.
Malatare prevailed in the long jump with a leap of 14 feet 8 inches. Other placing Scarlets included teammate Alex Adams, who placed third with 14 feet and 2.5 inches; Paige Fickler taking fifth (13-8) and Jenna Pablo finishing sixth (13-7.5).
Ronan-St. Ignatius’ Stephanie Lewandowski was second (17.95) in the 110-meter hurdles, third (4-8) in the high jump and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 54.43.
In the 100-meter dash, Kiana Howell of Ronan-St. Ignatius finished third, while Malatare was fifth (14.26), and Arlee’s Paige Fickler was sixth (14.32). Howell was also sixth (29.90) in the 200-meter.
In the longer races, Ronan-St. Ignatius’ Jade Gray was second (6.15) in the 1,600-meter run and teammate Courtney Heath took sixth (6.34).
Both the Ronan-St. Ignatius 400-meter relay teams performed well, coming in second (56.85) behind Darby (56.07) and fourth (57.86). Arlee was fifth with a time of 57.92.
In the 400-meter, Arlee’s Jessica Knoll was third (1.16) followed by Ronan-St. Ignatius’ Victoria Crenshaw (1.20) and Josie Adams (1.20). The Scarlets’ Tiffany O’Neill was sixth (1.20) in the event.
The shot put event was won by Drummond’s Frankie Bignell’s 33 feet and 6 inch throw. Ronan-St. Ignatius’ Twyla Hogge was second (32-10); Aspen Meidinger was third (32-6); Rachelle Meidinger fourth (31-6) and Aspen Jore fifth (29-5).
Ronan-St. Ignatius’ Courtney Clairmont was first in the 800-meter, and Crenshaw was fifth (3.16.509).
Kaylie Durglo landed at 30 feet 5.75 inches to win third in the triple jump, with Malatare’s 29 feet 9.5 inches leaping in at fourth, and Auxie Cates from Ronan-St. Ignatius coming in sixth (28-1).
In the 3,200-meter, Gray was first (13.08); Heath clocked in fourth (14.06); and Nikki Jo Mays fifth (14.15).
The Ronan-St. Ignatius 1,600-meter relay team was second (4.51.7) behind winner (4.38.1) Frenchtown.
