Martha Haverkamp

JOLIET — Martha L Haverkamp, 87, died of natural causes on Sept. 9, 2020, at her home in Joliet. She was born on June 5, 1933, in Ronan, to Alice (Grund) and Louis LeBrun. She was married to Peter Haverkamp Jr. for 44 years. He predeceased her in 1995. Pete’s job led the family to live in many places before settling in Joliet in 1982. Martha worked as a grade school secretary, secretary for the Extension Service and Carbon County Conservation District, council woman for the city of Joliet and for many years was coordinator for the Joliet Food Bank.  

Martha had many interests which included, singing with the Sweet Adeline’s, book club, attending local sports events, and her many church activities. She enjoyed walking with her friend, Margarette Dewell, and spending time with her friend, Denise Nafts. She had a special place in her heart for her niece, Patty Green, and her nephews, Rick and Mark Lebrun.

She is survived by her six children, Victoria (Bill) Thompson, Emily (Elbert) Loomis, Karen Haverkamp, Nancy Haverkamp, P. David (Maxine) Haverkamp, and James (Paulette) Haverkamp; her 12 grandchildren; and her 14 great-grandchildren, including one on the way.  

A Mass was celebrated Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. with a vigil at St. John’s Catholic Church on Monday, Sept. 14, at 6:30 p.m.  Burial will be on Thursday, Sept. 17, at the Mountain View Cemetery in Ronan. 

Memorials may be made to St. John’s Catholic Church in Joliet.
