Polson Lady Pirate golfer Ellie Thiel shot a 99 on Thursday and a 92 on Friday for a total of 191 and an 11th-place finish during the two-day Class A State Golf Tournament. The event was held in Butte at the Butte Country Club. As a team, the Lady Pirates placed fifth in the team standings. The Ronan Maidens placed seventh. Macao Jackson carded a 96 and a 102 for a 19th-place finish to pace the Maidens. The Polson Pirates, as a team, placed sixth with Hunter Emerson leading the way with a 13th-place finish, shooting an 87 and a 77 for a two-day total of 164.



Ronan Maidens / Polson Lady Pirates

On Friday evening, the Ronan Maidens picked up a 25-21, 26-28, 25-14, 26-24 Northwestern A conference home win over the Polson Lady Pirates. The win advances the Maidens one game over the .500 mark with a 6-5 overall season record. The Lady Pirates drop to 6-3 on the season. Both squads share a conference record of 4-3 on the year. The Maidens were led by Leina Ulutoa who had 11 digs, 30 assists and three serving aces. Madeline McCrea added 13 kills and eight blocks. Rylie Lindquist posted 14 digs. Maggie Todd led the Lady Pirates defensively with 12 digs and 13 kills, and Hallie Moss had 12 kills and seven digs.

Charlo Lady Vikings

The Charlo Lady Vikings continued their dominance in District 14C volleyball on the road last week with a three-set sweep Thursday at Hot Springs and a four-set win on Saturday against Philipsburg. In their matchup against the Hot Springs Lady Savage Heat, the Lady Vikings won in straight sets 25-20, 25-19, 29-27. Carlee Fryberger had a strong day for Charlo with four digs, eight kills, two blocks and four aces. Kassidi Cox led the Lady Viking attack with nine kills, four blocks and six aces. Connor Fryberger added 15 assists.

On Saturday, the Lady Vikings remained undefeated on the season at a mark of 11-0 with a 25-17, 23-25, 25-10, 25-15 victory over the Philipsburg Lady Prospectors. Connor Fryberger paced the Lady Viking assault with 26 assists, 11 digs and seven aces. Carlee Fryberger posted nine kills, seven digs and six aces. Molly Kate Sullivan added six aces and a block for the Lady Vikings, and Cox booked 11 kills and seven digs. The Lady Vikings will host Thompson Falls in a homecoming game on Thursday at 7 p.m.

Mission Lady Bulldogs

The Mission Lady Bulldogs were defeated in straight sets 25-22, 25-20, 25-18 by the visiting Loyola Breakers in a conference matchup Thursday evening. On Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs defeated the visiting Troy Lady Trojans 25-19, 23-25, 25-11, 14-25, 15-11.

Arlee Scarlets

On Thursday, the Arlee Scarlets dropped a three-set game to the visiting Florence Lady Falcons 25-9, 25-13, 25-17. For the Scarlets, Rheid Crawford had 15 digs. Jerny Crawford tallied three kills, a block and eight digs. Scarlet Xaria Jacobson picked up a dig, a kill and eight assists.

Ronan Maidens

The Ronan Maidens opened the week on the road Tuesday, Sept. 29 with a 25-22, 25-19, 25-17 three-set victory over the Frenchtown Lady Broncs. Maiden Leina Ulutoa posted 23 assists, while Rylie Lindquist had 10 kills and 14 digs. On Thursday, Olivia Clairmont led the Maidens on the road with 12 kills and six blocks in a five-set showdown with the Stevensville Lady Yellowjackets. Stevensville prevailed over the Maidens 23-25, 25-17, 27-29, 25-19, 15-11. Ulutoa had 20 assists and 16 digs, and Lindquist recorded 15 digs for the Maidens.


Last week was a busy one for both the Polson Pirates and Lady Pirates soccer teams. On Tuesday, both faced Columbia Falls on the road in a matchup that had been rescheduled following a Sept. 15 cancellation due to poor air quality. In the boys game, Kaden Nelson scored both Pirate goals in the 5-2 loss to the Wildcats. Tia Mercer and Autumn Burland scored goals in the 6-2 Lady Pirate loss to the Wildkats. 

On Polson’s home field, Thursday afternoon, the Lady Pirates and Pirates once again faced Columbia Falls. The Wildcats shutout the Pirates 3-0, while the Lady Wildkats defeated the Lady Pirates 14-4. Burland led the Lady Pirates with two goals. Mercer and Ali Hupka each had a goal. Mercer added four more goals to her season stat sheet on Saturday as the Lady Pirates chopped down the visiting Libby Lady Loggers 10-0.



Mission Bulldogs / Arlee Warriors

On Friday night, the Mission Bulldogs blasted the visiting Arlee Warriors 56-6. The win is the third straight for the Bulldog team who moves to 3-3 on the season. The Warriors held an overall record of 2-4. For the Bulldogs, quarterback Kellen McClure threw for three touchdowns as Javon Bolen rushed for a score and Layne Spidel rushed for two touchdowns. Warrior Kendall O’Neill threw a 24-yard touchdown pass for Arlee’s only score of the game.

Polson Pirates

The Polson Pirates fell 56-46 on the road to the Frenchtown Broncs on Friday night. Jarrett Wilson completed 39 of 60 passes for 441 yards and five scores and added another touchdown on the ground for the Pirates who drop to 3-3 on the season. Colten Graham had three receiving touchdowns for the Pirates on 10 catches for 138 yards. Xavier Fisher had 167 yards on 13 catches and a touchdown.

Ronan Chiefs

The Ronan Chiefs swatted the Stevensville Yellowjackets 48-12 during a Class A game on Friday night. 


Cross Country

The Mission Bulldogs boys’ cross country team took home a second-place team finish during the Annual Mission HS/MS cross country meet on Tuesday, Sept. 29. Thomas Nuila placed second with a time of 17:32.17 for the Bulldogs. Andrew Rush finished in fifth with a time of 17:59.24, and Zoran LaFrombois clocked a seventh place time of 18:58.67 to round out the top ten finishers.

With a time of 22:39.41, Lady Bulldog Cedar Hunt finished in first place. Madyson Currie finished in tenth place.    

Also on Tuesday, both the Ronan and Polson cross country teams competed during the Whitefish Invitational. 

Brant Heiner earned the boys individual victory clocking a time of 16:16.09 and led the Ronan Chiefs to a second place team finish. Heiner was followed by Michael Irvine (18:13.65) who placed third and Zarec Couture (18:18.44) who finished fourth. The Polson Pirates placed third as a team with Ryan Dupuis as the top Pirate finisher with a time of 18:24.89 for sixth place.

On the girls side, the Lady Pirates, as a team, took home top honors with five runners finishing in the top ten. Karli Owens placed second with a time of 22:10.67  followed by Halle Heninger (22:13.98) in fourth and Adison Carlson (23:10.94) in fifth. 

For the Ronan Maidens, Olivia Heiner nabbed a third place finish with a time of 22:13.98.
