Ronald P. Hansen Sr.
ST. IGNATIUS — Ronald P. Hansen Sr., 54, longtime resident of St. Ignatius (23 years in Mission Valley), passed away at a family home in Seeley Lake, on Feb. 9, 2012. Ron was the youngest of six children born on March 31, 1957 to Roy Sr. and Pauline Hansen in Olympia, Wash.
When Ron was four, the family moved to North Bend British Columbia. His father died in 1971. In 1974 the family moved back to Yelm, Wash. Ron continued his education, and graduated from Yelm High School in 1976. After graduating, Ron moved to Montana. He worked in logging, farming jobs, and heavy equipment. Ron married Mona Gibson on April 25, 1987, in Kalispell. Ron and Mona made their home in the Mission Valley. Their only son Ronald P. Hansen Jr. was born in Polson on June 4, 1991.
Ron’s hobbies were hunting, fishing, gold panning, and genealogy for his and Mona’s families. Ron was a member of the Latter Day Saints Church. Ron enjoyed helping other families, and especially children. He was a “big brother” to all the kids. Ron had several nicknames his good friends called him, “Moose,” “ Bubba,” and “ Big Ron.”
Ron is preceded in death by his grandparents, mother and father, one brother, and one nephew.
Ron is survived by his wife Mona; son Ron Jr. of St. Ignatius; step-sons Paul Tucker of Bozeman and Tommy Price of Washington, D.C.; siblings Loralee (Tom) Daley, Richard (Toni) Hansen of Olympia, Wash., Glenn (Becky) Hansen of Nielton, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday March 3, at 1 p.m. in St. Ignatius at the community hall. Everett Foust will officiate and a potluck will follow.
