ST. IGNATIUS – In an effort to build literacy resources, Just Read Mission Valley is offering a free bookshelf-building workshop.
“Every family should have a library of books in the home, and we’d like to help make that possible,” event organizers state. “Just Read Mission Valley is an initiative to help children ages 0-5 gain experience and skills to build literacy in reading and other areas of life in the home.”
The ongoing initiative will include other activities, including resources, demonstrations and education. The bookcase project will be the first project.
On Saturday, May 22, at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., organizers will be at the Good Old Days pavilion in St. Ignatius where families can build a bookcase for free. A free lunch will be served at noon. The child-size bookcases will be made using “pallets, a little creativity, and some sanding and painting or staining.” The finished product will be taken home.
The project is supported through donations and volunteers. More information can be found on the group’s Facebook page.
