Track & Field

Charlo Vikings and Lady Vikings

Charlo Lady Viking Carlee Fryberger won five individual events while competing in Saturday’s District 14C championships held at the MCPS in Missoula. Fryberger won the 100 meter (13.26), 200 meter (27.61), 100 meter hurdles (14.87), 300 meter hurdles (48.34) and triple jump (33-03.00).

Also winning multiple events for the Charlo Vikings, Kenton Piedalue finished first in the 100 meters (11.87), 200 meters (24.23) and 400 meters (54.22). Piedalue also ran on the 4x400 relay team (Braydon Zempel, Coyle Nagy, Tayre Brown) which finished first with a time of 3:46.49 minutes. The 4x100 relay team (Braydon Zempel, Coyle Nagy, Hayden Hollow) placed second.

Other top-three finishers for the Charlo Vikings and Lady Vikings were Braydon Zempel, second in the 100 meters, Tucker Love, second in the 1600 meters, Coyle Nagy, third in the 800, and Guinevere Contreras, third in the 3200. 

Kyla Tomlin placed third in the pole vault and finished second in both the shot put and javelin. Lady Viking Aida Cote won the discus with a throw of 91 feet and placed second in the high jump.

Mission Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs

In the District 7B finals, hosted in Eureka on Saturday, Mission Lady Bulldog Sydney Brander

placed first in the 100 meters with a time of 13.15 seconds. She placed first in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet 3.5 inches, and first in the triple jump with a leap of 33 feet 11.75 inches, and she finished second in the high jump.

For the Mission Bulldogs, Andrew Rush finished first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:03.30, and Bryce Umphrey placed third in the triple jump. Charles Adams placed second in the 100 meters and third in the long jump. Layne Spidel finished second in the 300 meters and third in the 400 meters.

The Bulldogs 4x100 relay (Canyon Sargent, Charles Adams, Kellen McClure, Layne Spidel) and 4x400 relay (Charles Adams, Andrew Rush, Isaiah Nasewytewa, Layne Spidel) both finished second.

Arlee Warriors and Scarlets

In Saturday’s District 6B championships held in Missoula at the MCPS track, the Arlee Warriors and Scarlets booked solid performances. Isabelle Pape placed second in the 300-meter hurdles, second in the pole vault and second in the triple jump. Adalyn Jacobson finished second in the 200 meters and third in the high jump. 

Raven Parson, with a time of 2:47.97, won the 800 meters. Halle Adams placed second in the shot put. Harli Kinney nabbed a second in the pole vault, and Shonlea Matt placed third in the 1600. The Scarlets 4x100 relay team (Princess Bolen, Adalyn Jacobson, Isabelle Pape, Raven Parson) finished third.

Warrior Colt Crawford finished second in the 300-meter hurdles and third in the 100-meter hurdles. In the pole vault, with RJ Knoll took top honors followed by Andrew Knoll in second and Trent RutherFord in third. RutherFord also placed second in the 3200 and Sage Nicolai placed third in the 1600.

Polson Pirates and Lady Pirates

Polson Pirate sophomore Jarret Wilson had a big day Thursday, May 13, winning three events against the hosting Columbia Falls Wildcats in a Northwestern A Conference track and field dual meet at Nicosia Track Complex.

Wilson won the 100 meters with a time of 11.60 seconds, the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 42.19 seconds and high jump (5’ 10). Austin Luper was first in the 400 meters, posting a time of 54.73 seconds.

Michelle Dale posted a win in the 100 meters with a time of 13.78 seconds and the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 57.30 seconds. Alexandra Dupuis placed first in the 400 meters (1:10.75). Ashtyn Wagner won the 800 meters (2:35.97). 

 

Softball

Polson Lady Pirates

Outscoring their opponents by a margin of 49-4, the Polson Lady Pirate bats were brutal on the opposing team’s pitchers this past weekend during the two-day Laverne Combo tournament held in Butte. The Lady Pirates opened the tournament on Friday with a 16-0 shutout win over the Hamilton Lady Broncs. At the plate, Josie Caye led the Lady Pirates going 3-for-3 with three RBIs, while Kobbey Smith hit a home run. Splitting pitching duties, Katelynne Druyvestein and Nikki Kendall held the Lady Bronc batters hitless in four innings of work and combined for eight strikeouts.

In the late game Friday, Polson racked up 13 runs in the second inning in a 23-4 win over the Corvallis Lady Blue Devils. Lexy Orien, SaVanna Carpentier and Turquoise Pierre each had home runs. Caye had a 4-for-5 performance at the plate for the Lady Pirates. 

Druyvestein picked up the win in the circle, holding Corvallis to only four hits in four innings of work, striking out four and walking four.

Wrapping up tournament action on Saturday, Orien led the Lady Pirates to a 10-0 shutout win over the Stevensville Lady Yellowjackets with two home runs and five RBIs. Druyvestein pitched a complete game allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out 10 Lady Yellowjacket batters.

Mission-Arlee-Charlo (MAC)

The Mission-Arlee-Charlo Lady Bulldogs wrapped up their regular season at home this past week with an extra-inning victory over Florence and a double-header win over Plains.

On Tuesday, May 11, MAC defeated the Florence Lady Falcons with a 4-3 extra-inning win. Down 3-2 in the bottom of the eighth, a single by Izzy Evans pushed two MAC base runners across the plate for the win. MAC hurlers Liev Smith and Kooper Page combined for 10 strikeouts, allowing three runs on seven hits.

On Saturday, MAC finished their regular season with an 18-2-1 overall record with a double-header sweep of the Plains Trotters. MAC opened the day with a 17-1 win over the Trotters. Page picked up the win surrendering one run on four hits, striking out seven and walking one in five innings of work. At the plate, Hayleigh Smith, Rheid Crawford and Page each booked three RBIs on the day.

Pitcher Liev Smith allowed no runs on three hits, while MAC hitters scored 15 runs on 15 hits in a 15-0 shutout victory over Plains. 

On Thursday, MAC opens Western B/C Divisional action in Florence.

 

Tennis

Polson Pirates and Lady Pirates

Polson pulled off a sweep of the visiting Stevensville tennis team on Tuesday, May 11. The Pirates and Lady Pirates both won by a score of 6-1. Sarah Kinzle, Elizabeth Tolley and Piper Hoxie each picked up singles wins for the Lady Pirates. Doubles teams Berkley Ellis and Qia Harlan; Megan Rost and Ara Mercer; and Clara Todd and Taylor Collinge all had wins.

Michael Smith defeated Stevensville’s Matt Hock 6-0 6-3 for a singles win, while the remainder of the Pirate points came by way of forfeit.

On the road Thursday, the Lady Pirates slipped by the Whitefish Lady Bulldogs 4-3, while the Pirates stumbled 6-1 to the Bulldogs. Katelyn Smith picked up a 6-3, 6-0 singles win, while doubles pair Qia Harlan and Berkley Ellis; Ara Mercer and Megan Rost; and Clara Todd and Taylor Collinge grabbed wins for the Lady Pirates.

Pirate tandem Michael Smith and Torrin Ellis defeated their Whitefish opponents in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Ronan Chiefs and Maidens

On Tuesday, May 11, the Ronan Chiefs and Maidens fell to hosting Columbia Falls in Northwestern A tennis conference action. The Wildcats prevailed over the Chiefs 5-1, while the Wildkats outlasted the Maidens 4-2.

Doubles team Alyssa Pretty on Top and Aaliya Decker came away with a 6-1, 6-0 win.  Courtney Bourdon nabbed a 6-1, 6-0 singles win for the Maidens.

For the Chiefs, Vicente Ortega and Larenz Alvarez won a three-set 1-6, 6-3, (10-8) doubles battle.
