Polson hosts weekend track meet

POLSON — In the final week of the regular season for prep track and field, the Polson Pirates and Lady Pirates competed against 10 visiting teams during the Nelson Thomas ABC meet held at the Polson Sports Complex on Saturday. 

The Polson boys and girls fared well, placing in the top three in five events throughout the day. Pirate Jarrett Wilson took first place in the 100 meters with a time of 11.81 seconds. Wilson also placed second in the 110-meter hurdles. Austin Luper finished third in both the 100-meter and 200-meter races.

For the Lady Pirates, with a time of 12:48.13 minutes, Ashtyn Wagner finished second in the 3200.

The Chiefs and Maidens finished the meet with eight top-three finishers. Maiden Leina Ulutoa grabbed a first-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 33 feet 10.5 inches, while Chief Girma Detwiler placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 43 feet 3 inches. Michael Irvine placed third in both the 800 and 1600 races for the Chiefs. 

Rounding out the top-three finishers for Ronan were Brant Heiner with second place in the 3200, Payton Cates with second in the high jump, Zarec Couture with third place in the long jump and Lindsey Brooks with third place in the high jump.

Both the Polson and Ronan track and field teams will be back in action in Columbia Falls on Friday and Saturday as they compete in the Western A Divisional meet hosted at the Dr. Nicosia Track Complex. The state meet is scheduled for the week after.
