Mission Valley athletes claim divisional titles

MISSOULA — Mission Valley area prep track and field teams had plenty of strong performances during the Class B/C Divisional meet held in Missoula and the Class A Divisional meet in Columbia Falls this past weekend.
Mission Lady Bulldog Sydney Brander won four individual events to headline area athletes and now moves on to state track and field action this weekend. Brander won the girls’ Class B 100 meters (13.26), 200 meters (27.77), long jump (15-11.5), triple jump (32-2.50) and she took second in the high jump.
For the Mission Bulldogs, Andrew Rush won the division title in the 800 with a time of 2:01.79 minutes and placed third in both the 1600 and 3200 races. Charley Adams finished second in the 100 meters and Bryce Umphrey placed third in the triple jump.
Top finishers for Arlee boys and girls were Colt Crawford with a second-place finish in the 300 meter hurdles and fourth-place finish by Halle Adams in the shot put. Adalyn Jacobson had a fourth-place finish in the 100-meter race.
In Class C action, Charlo Lady Viking Carlee Fryberger captured divisional titles in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.76 seconds, the 300-meter hurdles (47.48) and triple jump (34-02.75). Fryberger took second in the 100-meter race and was third in the 200 meters.
Kenton Piedalue rounded out the top-three finishes for the Charlo Vikings with a third-place finish in the 400.
Class A Ronan Chiefs placed four athletes in the top three: Payton Cates claimed top marks in the high jump with a measurement of six feet, two inches, followed by a second-place finish by Girma Detwiler in the triple jump along with third place finishes by Brant Heiner in the 3200 and Zarec Couture in the long jump.
For the Maidens, Rylie Lindquist placed second in the javelin.
Top finishers for the Polson boys and girls were Pirates Austin Luper in the 200-meter race and Jonathan Perez in the javelin who both placed fourth. Lady Pirate Ashtyn Wagner placed fifth in the 800.
Starting on Friday and ending Saturday, track and field teams from Arlee, Mission, Polson and Ronan will compete in the joint A/B state meet held in Laurel. The Charlo squad will make the short trip to Missoula for the joint AA/C state meet.
