A Somers woman is facing charges stemming from a short pursuit through the streets of Polson. Brooke Anna Hovland-Burrington, 39, entered a plea of not guilty at District Court in Polson on Aug. 18, to felony charges of driving under the influence, criminal endangerment and misdemeanor charges of fleeing or eluding a peace officer and obstructing a peace officer.
According to charging documents, on June 14, Lake County emergency dispatchers received a report that a possibly impaired driver was headed southbound on U.S. Highway 93 into Polson. Polson police located the suspected vehicle in an alley off Main Street. The suspect’s vehicle traveled the alleyways of Polson without stopping before it was trapped by police at a deadend on 11th Avenue West.
The suspect’s vehicle allegedly drove into an officer’s patrol unit. When the driver, later identified as Hovland-Burrington, obeyed orders to exit the vehicle, she “stumbled and reeked of alcohol,” according to records. Police had to obtain a search warrant for a blood draw from Hovland-Burrington.
Judge James Manley set the case for trial Feb. 24. Hovland-Burrington remains at liberty with daily alcohol monitoring.
