ARLEE — Cortney Dix discovered the game of volleyball when she was in the sixth grade, and ever since she’s felt at home on the court.
“I just loved (volleyball) when I found it,” Dix remembered.
Now that love will take her from the gymnasium in Arlee to the campus of Montana Tech in Butte.
The Arlee High School senior has been selected to the Western C All-Conference Team each year of her high school career. She was named All-State her junior year. She has also been named to the Academic All-State Team for three years and on the high honor roll for four years.
She will start college this spring, graduating early from high school to begin her studies for a nursing degree and play volleyball.
“I always wanted to stay in Montana to attend school and go into the medical field,” Dix shared.
Recruited as a setter, Dix is a versatile player, but said she was drawn to the position because she liked being a leader on the floor.
“She is a terrific setter with very good ball placement and set selection,” said the Oredigger’s head coach, Marilyn Tobin.
Dix said she was approached last year at the Divisional Tournament to possibly play for the Orediggers, but it wasn’t until after she visited the campus that she decided to sign.
“After visiting Montana Tech, I felt like it could be my home away from home," Dix said.
“I am very excited about the choice that I made and cannot wait to see all that the school has to offer.”
