POLSON – Ten Polson community members received recognition from the “Polson Community in Bloom” contest organized by “Envision Polson!.” Judging took place Tuesday, Aug. 30, by four Polson residents, all gardeners, and three of whom hold the title of Master Gardener.

Polson Community in Bloom winners by category are:
Balconies and window boxes: Olivia Bertsch
Business: Hawthorne House
Residence: Kari Wise and Kathy Shore
Vegetable: John Kelly
Containers: Marshell Fox
Mobile home: Sotero Muniz
Perennial: Charles Bertsch
Volunteers: Betty Bjork and Penny Jarecki, for planting and care of Triangle Park on Hwy. 93 and 7th St. near Ducharme Park.

Judging criteria focused on “curb appeal” which included color, combinations of flowers and color, and uniqueness or creativity. Fifty nominations were received by the beautification committee of Envision Polson!. A church category was initially included, however, no nominations were received and the category was replaced by perennial gardens. Garden volunteers were also added to the recognition.

“We want to recognize the people in our community who are making a difference,” said Jackie Cripe, chairperson for the beautification committee. “Without these people creating and caring about their gardens,” she said, “Polson would not be the great place that it is.”

The Polson Community in Bloom recognition is the second beautification committee project this year. The Clean Up! Green Up! Project held in the spring will continue as a long-term effort to encourage residences and businesses in Polson to clean up debris and weeds from their property and surroundings. Envision Polson! was created by the Greater Polson Community Foundation (GPCF) in the fall of 2010 to work on a vision for the community of Polson. Several Envision Polson! committees are working to draw in folks with like minds and goals. A community survey is currently being taken to collect community input on the GPCF web site www.polsonforever.org.
