Editor,
Dayton Daze dawned on yet another gorgeous day as the Chief Cliff Volunteer Fire Department celebrated its annual fundraiser. There was food and handcrafted items for sale at the church, wine tasting at the Winery, sailboat rides at the harbor, and by 3 p.m., fire trucks, vintage cars, horses and kids in costume lined out for a spirited procession around the “town square.” The Idle Spur gave us all a reason to dance with three bands worth of great music, and there was plenty of excellent food for all (and a magnificent strawberry shortcake). The community pulled together once again to make this annual event a success, but we couldn’t have done it without the generosity and cooperation of Sharyle (and Dennis) at the Idle Spur, which has hosted the event for the last 21 years. Lots of people helped to organize this fundraiser and we couldn’t make it happen without them. Next year’s parade will be bigger than ever, with the theme “Old West Outlaws and Legends.” So put on your thinking caps and come up with a great float idea. We don’t care where you hail from, as long as you end up in Dayton next year on Sept. 14 to help us celebrate Dayton Daze. See you there.
