Editor,

Great waves of change are upon us. Corporate interests are threatening the very fabric of life in western Montana. The corporate United States, aka the federal government, “for itself, and as trustee” for the corporate Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of the Flathead Reservation threaten to close the “Headwaters States” great western water basin, on and off the Reservation, for “time immemorial.” Will we fall prey to the trap of human ignorance and human arrogance? Or will we find the strength and the will as individuals, tribal and non-tribal, to unite for the preservation of humanity and the preservation of this beautiful land that has been given to us as our home within the universe? Let us not allow corporate interests to further pervert humanity’s innate ability to unite. Now is the time to bring equanimity and fairness to the distribution of water resources and to secure a more profound position of strength for humanity’s future; one that honors unification. Let us bring forth the power of (comm)unity to help re-create the proposed Water Right Agreement for our neighboring individual Kootenai and Salish Indian brothers and sisters within the Flathead Reservation and truly quantify their real and individual water right needs. United as Montanans we stand. Together we can avoid the corporate interests that are hell bent on preventing the unification of rural Montana, for time immemorial.
