DIXON — It’s turned into a lovely, long fall; just what I’d hoped for. I’m still planting spring bulbs, knowing how welcome they will be after winter’s sleep.

Winter birds, such as Steller’s Jays, are returning to the birdfeeders; and of course, the trees are in their fall splendor.

In November all veterans and their extended family members can take the AARP Safe Driving class for no charge. It is a four-hour class on Tuesday, Nov. 13, at 9 a.m., in Dixon. Any licensed driver is eligible. The cost is $12 for AARP members (bring your card), and $14 for nonmembers. Bring a sack lunch.

Your car insurance may offer a discount if you take this class. Please call (406) 239-8638 or sign up at the Dixon Senior Center.

Our great cook Diane is making good use of the donations of fall produce from local gardeners. She has prepared delicious squash, and plum pie.

Did you know Dixon was once known as “Wild Plum Station?”
