MISSOULA — Airport director Cris Jensen recently announced “The Missoula International Airport’s September 2012 passenger numbers were higher than any other September in the airport’s history. In addition, year-to-date, we are experiencing another record-breaking year in total passenger numbers.”
According to recently released Airport Operations Reports, the total number of passengers flying through MSO in September 2012 was 53,852, which represents a 9 percent increase over the previous record of 49,412 set in 2010. Year-to-date the total number of passengers flying through MSO is 462,464. The previous high, for the same time period, set in 2011 was 447,493.
Jensen added, “MSO is having a banner year, but based on trends over the last five years, the fact that we maintain this upward pattern is a solid indicator of continued growth in air travel in and out of Missoula. We are currently working on the airport’s terminal expansion plan to address the growth and are continuing conversations with airlines regarding adding more air service.”
Jensen explained “Adding more air service lowers fares for the business and leisure traveler. To that end, we’re working with Missoula Economic Partnership, who is involving the community in the airline recruitment effort.”
Four airlines, Alaska, Allegiant, Delta and United, serving 11 nonstop destinations, have operations at Missoula International Airport. For more information on flights in and out of Missoula, visit the airport website at www.flymissoula.com.
