Editor,

Lyle Lovec has questioned my ethics and trustworthiness due to my representation of his wife in their contested divorce.

Mrs. Lovec was referred to me by the Montana Modest Means program administered through the state bar. To my knowledge, I am the only Lake County attorney listed for such referrals, and if I accept, due so at a very substantial reduction in fees.

Last July, when Mr. Lovec vaguely raised the issue of a potential conflict, my client and I carefully reviewed the Montana Rules of Profession Conduct and relevant facts and determined no conflict existed.

Contrary to Mr. Lovec’s claim, in my limited representation of him more than six years ago, no confidential/privileged financial information was disclosed. The case did not require it. Regardless, as anyone who is familiar with divorce cases knows, full and complete disclosure, under oath, of all assets and liabilities is mandatory. Nothing can be concealed.

One can fairly reflect on Mr. Lovec’s curious timing and any ulterior motives he might harbor regarding my continued representation of his wife. Without an attorney at her side, it hardly makes for a level playing field.

Mr. Lovec, you can trust that I will be an advocate for Glenna.
