Editor,

Last week, a friend of mine in Polson gave me a large postcard from a PAC group stating that Carmine Mowbray voted against parents’ rights and further went on to say that children as young as 5 would be taught scientific names for both male and female reproductive organs, as well as other untruths.

As a former legislator from Kalispell, I was appalled to read such drivel. The postcard referred to HB 456, so I pulled up the bill to see what was going on. From what I read, current law already states that school boards determine subject matter, so if a local board were to do anything such as the statements on the postcard, I’m sure they would be immediately voted out.

One representative said this bill was drafted as a “statement bill” and would have no chance of passing. Drafting any bill costs taxpayer money, and when someone is just trying to make a statement, they are not fiscally responsible, and this is why she voted against it.

So instead of saying “Vote no” on Sen. Carmine Mowbray, as the postcard says, perhaps all of the voters in SD 6 should go vote “yes” for Carmine.
